Star Wars: The Last Jedi (no spoiler movie review)

Remember two years ago, when The Force Awakens came out? It was this huge phenomenon and everyone was excited. Well, the time has come again. The newest installment of the Star Wars series is out. Episode eight. Now we finally get to see what The Last Jedi really means.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was finally released into theaters December 15th. I saw it December 16th. Which was as soon as I was able. This Sci-fi/fantasy adventure stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher (RIP 😦  )and Adam Driver. It is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action and violence.

The movie quickly starts off and reminds you exactly what happened in The Force Awakens. Rey is on the Island and trying to get Luke Skywalker to help her. Finn is still comatose. Poe is still the crazy pilot. We finally get to meet Snoke, which was exciting.

So much happens throughout the movie. It is possible that too much was thrown in, I’ve yet to decide. There was a lot of building up. I would definitely say it was not like any of the other Star Wars films. I honestly had no idea where this movie was going to go.

I found the struggles in both Kylo and Rey to be intriguing. Were they going to be swayed by the light or dark side. Was Luke going to teach Rey or would he fail with her too? We got several questions answered that we’ve been asking since 2015.

I would have liked to have seen more of Benicio Del Toro’s character. There was something really interesting about him, he was almost like Lando. Hopefully, he’ll show back up I want to know more.

Rose was a great new character. I liked her strength, loyalty, and her commitment to the Rebel cause. She didn’t take crap from anyone and she didn’t give up.

Snoke ended up being pretty disappointing. I wanted sinister and compelling, like Palpatine. But he was just blah. He was probably the most disappointing thing about the movie.

There were a couple of space battles and there was a lack of real lightsaber battles. The action was almost non-existent much of the time. They seemed to make it work though, because I hardly noticed the lack of action.

All in all the movie was very fun and I think most people will enjoy it. It was good, because it was so different. I give it 4 out of 5.

  1. Yep. Thumbs up for Carrie, BDT and Laura Dern, Snoke however may be consigned to the same folder of Jar Jar Binks

      • Seriously though – I thought that’s what they were going to do with Binks – turn him into a Sith Lord; it would take something to rescue that failure

  2. Ah I pretty much agree with all of your review. We seen it on the 14th as it was released earlier in the UK (I call it a late birthday present) I of course fell further in love with bb8 he’s just my man and don’t for get Poe 😍 what a damn pilot! I was exceptionally impressed with Leia and how they handled hints there, super exciting! Snoke had me a bit lack luster toobut something tells me we have more to find out. It cannot be that simple can it? Rey and Ben almost had me a bit done in with their ‘moments’ it began to feel a bit ‘batman in the hole’ but they turned it round just before it became too much. I honestly loved it. I’m just super disappointed we have another two years to wait for more answers 🙈

    • I hope you are correct about Snoke, I don’t want a character with so much potential to be wasted.
Let’s be honest BB-8 was NOT in the movie enough. None of the droids were.
I hadn’t really thought much about the Ben and Rey moments but it is true they were beginning to get drawn out. They fortunately didn’t let it go too far.
It will be very interesting to see what happens and 2 years it too long!! Leia will be so missed in the next movie. I kind of wanted to cry.

      • I’m exceptionally interested in how they are going to handle Leia now. The next was supposed to be her focus so I’m curious to see what they will do. Will they just time hop? So many questions! I hope snoke has something to tie up questions with him even if in a side project or even a reference. Something tells me he’s not done yet! The droids never are in my opinion but I’m a sucker for merch characters, I fall for them every time this film was no exception 😂

      • Yes, I had such a fascination with R2D2 when I was little.
I hope they handle Leia well in the next movie. She deserves the best departure imaginable. It’ll be weird without her.
So many questions and not enough answers!!

      • I suppose that’s how they keep us going though … Keep us guessing and wanting more. I have faith they will do well, I’ve been pleasantly impressed so far xo
