Movie Review: Justice League (NO SPOILERS!)
I have been waiting excitedly for the Justice League movie since Batman vs. Superman. I know everyone has strong opinions about that movie, but if you can’t see it for the fun movie it is we just can’t be friends. The music and action were amazing. Besides that is where we originally got a little introduction to Wonder Woman.
Anyway, Justice League was released November 17 (yesterday!). I was in the theater that night. This action/superhero movie is PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence and action. and stars Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot (YAY!).
The beginning of the movie struggled a little. The movie introduces a creature I feel we should have had a clue about. But instead it was sprung on the viewer. Maybe that was the point–the viewer should be as confused as the heroes (but I mean if you saw the trailers you would have known the creatures were there).
After that it was basically Batman and Wonder Woman trying to assemble their team. Though all of the assembling was entertaining and important it was drawn out just a bit too long. But I thoroughly enjoyed being introduced to Aquaman, the Flash and Cyborg. Each character is amazing on their own or together. I can’t wait to see their stand alone movies (they better get made).
Once the team is together there are two different significant fights for the group. Both were fantastic but the final fight scene is amazing. The villain, Steppenwolf, was actually a worthy foe. I’d say just slightly underdeveloped but he didn’t defeat easily. Totally different than other superhero movies (I’m looking at you Marvel).
There are some tense moments, I jumped at least once, but their was humor. It was much lighter than any DC movie I’ve seen. Yes, there was brooding, but not an incessant amount. If you like The Dark Knight trilogy I’m doubting you’d like the Justice League.
The humor, I felt, was done tastefully. It didn’t feel forced or unnecessary. It almost felt more like something that might happen if a person was trying to help their teammates not be so tense.
My biggest disappointment was the music. Had Hans Zimmer not done the other movies it would probably mean nothing but the music felt cheap. What the movie lacked was classic Zimmer.
Also, to those who are upset about the Amazonians costume alterations. I saw them and agree. It was disappointing to say the least.
All in all the movie was fun and I enjoyed it even after a bit of a slow start. It was clearly just the introduction to the League. I can’t wait to see what they do next. Hopefully the villains keep getting better and the stories improve more and more. If you want a fun movie and don’t take yourself too seriously then this movie is for you.
I give it 3.5 stars out of 5.
